Bear with me this morning. We had “thunderboomers” most of the night and I was up with the dogs most of it. Well, actually just such a light sleeper that I can’t sleep through most storms. Anyway, are you wondering about my title? Let me tell you about a shopping trip we took last night.
Like most Americans, the only thing I like about WalMart is their prices. The stores in my area are usually understaffed, never enough checkout lanes open and poorly managed. I’ve talked with some of their employees, they’ve told me about the management and I’ve had a few runins myself. We went yesterday, mainly in search of good caffine prices. Diet coke for me, Pepsi for Shannon. We found the good price on Pepsi. We were almost done and walking by the checkout isles and Shannon spots an endcap that had RV antifreeze on it. A little early for that, cuz we won’t close up the camper until the end of October. But something caught his eye. On this endcap were cases of antifreeze, still in the box. The entire endcap was FULL of these boxes. And the price sign said $4.98. We looked and looked and said NO WAY. but lifted that case (and it was heavy) grabbed hot dog buns and went to checkout. Now we knew that this stuff was so mismarked but there is this thing called Truth in Advertising. The cashier wasn’t falling for it. She made excuse after excuse about it, saying that there must have been some individual bottles on the shelf that had already been bought. Nope, the endtire endcap was full of closed cases of this stuff. She wouldn’t budge. So I asked to see the manager. Usually that takes at least 10 minutes to get one over there but lo and behold, one was only 10 feet away. He wasn’t happy about it but knew we had him over the barrel. So we got 6 bottles of RV antifreeze for $4.98. Made the trip worthwhile. Now do I feel badly about taking advantage of a big retail giant? NO! I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve gotten home and looked at my reciept to find that the items didn’t scan at what the shelf said. Is it my fault that they have lazy employees? No. Maybe if they took better care of their staff stuff like this wouldn’t happen. Did I bother to go back and see if there was anyone correcting the mistake? No, I hightailed it out of the store. But I’d love to know if anyone did anything to fix it.
So have you had any run ins with the retail giant? I know that Amanda (who blatently rooted for OU in yesterday’s comments - Yuck! *grins*) always has great WalMart stories. When you find a price discrepancy do you say anything to the cashier or take the item up to the customer service desk? Is there one store that you constantly find yourself having to double check your receipt before you leave the store?
Let’s see, what’s going on in the scrapbooking world? Don’t forget the 2 challenges that I’m running. The Quote challenge at DSG and the blog challenge at Heather Manning’s CT Blog. There’s a great (if I don’t say so myself) posting bonus for the quote challenge and a chance to win either a $10 or $2o GC to Heather’s store. Hopefully I’ll have a freebie for you on Wednesday. There’s a BIG blog party freebie collab that’s starting to come together for the begining of Oct. run by the head Wench herself. So if you signed up to be a part of that, make sure you check in with her on the progress. And we have a birthday party coming up. Lots of surprises, prizes and games. Stay tuned for more info on that!
Running late, but wanted to get this in before I left. The old man is gonna get a rain day. Not good! But we do need the rain, desperately. Glad to hear that Ike most likely isn’t gonna go back into the Gulf area that Gustov hit and hoping that those in S. Florida aren’t getting drenched right now.
Have a great day!

LMAO I HAVE to root for OU. I’m an alum - sort of. Besides, there was that whole business of OSU wanting to copyright “Ohio” for their team apparel? Pulease.
Yes, I have TONS of retail stories. I check my receipt EVERY time. I’m even one of those annoying shoppers who if I can checks the register as it’s scanning stuff. I’ll even take in competitor’s flyers to get the price compare plus 10% that a lot of stores do too. Toys R Us is another one to watch. They try to tell you that their online ads and in store prices don’t match up. I got them last Christmas on Wii games being buy 2 get one free because it wasn’t marked “in store only” in the flyer and the promotion wasn’t coming up online, and I wasn’t driving an hour to a store, so I called their 1-800 number and got them that way.
Hope you have a great Tuesday! I’m blog surfing between storms here.

You have to keep an eye on these stores. You had em right, it was advertised, it wasn’t broken down, so tough. Pay their employees better, keep more people on hand so the ones that’s there aren’t stretched to the point of just not caring & things might get better. I was at Target & saw eye shadow cellophaned together (2 packs), priced at like $6. I was thinking that’s the usual price for 1, is this a buy one, get one deal? I asked a lady that worked there & she said that the person stocking hadn’t taken the time to seperate them. Laziness.
And I’m with Amanda..I’ll take competitors fliers into Wal Mart. Dude, when you have 3 kids (boys that are nothing but eating machines) & 1 income, you do what you gotta do! And I’m all about asking everywhere I go if places offer military discounts. I’ve had managers get mad that their places of business didn’t, but they offer a mall discount. A couple of times I’ve been given a discount card, hand written by the manager.

I have a customer service nightmare story about Home Depot that I got to experience recently. I’d post it on my blog, but my attorney husband always has a conniption when I dis a large company on my blog. He nearly had a cardiac arrest when I recently wrote about Burger King, so I’m going to skip this lovely tale. But believe me, it’s a pathetic tale of “You can do it, We Won’t Help”.

My story is not one about run ins with Wal Mart but I feel the need to post this. I used to work where we helped low income people find affordable housing. Many of the people who worked and needed help were WalMart employees.(6.15 an hour) Many people complain about welfare and I totally understand that. But in cases like this I think it’s Welfare for the Companies not the employees. Since we (tax payers) help people who can’t afford housing , WalMart (and others) can keep paying low wages to their employees. I know many employees are kids in school, etc. but many are adults. I hear people say well they should go to school. How do you go to school when you have 2 kids, your husband left, your family is of no support to you at all??? Yes there are a few who can and do manage but it’s not always possible. Some people do not have the intelligence to get a better job so they are out there working at what they can do and doing the best they can. I understand some small companies cannot pay well, but these large companies could od better. I just wish people would think . When we assist people it’s often not that they are not out working hard, it’s that they do not get paid enough by people who could afford to pay more and take a bit less profit.
